Does anyone have any comments on this park? We are planning a trip there soon.

Its a nice park with lots of shade. Has trails to hike and bike,

You might check the park web site for closures, they are upgrading parts of the park for the last year.

It is a very nice park and it is a very nice area of Texas.  In the older section, the campsites are very close together and there is little in the way of seperation.  The park can also get crowded with day users on the weekends.

The park connects to the Sam Houston National Forest and the trail system connects to the Lone Star Trail.  The Dog Woods are great in March.

What type of camping are you planning to do, tent, RV, etc?

i agree luv2camp, it's way too hot and humid to tent camp during the summer!  Shocked  i'm a tent camper and do most of my camping in the fall or spring.  i have a portable ac for summer tent camping, but it weighs over 60lbs and is not fun to pack / unpack.

Hi,

We went to Huntsville State Park this weekend, the camping area is very nice and quiet. The swimming and day use area was totally packed,a nice park but the best time to go is during the week if you want to use the swimming area. Most all areas in Coloneh camping area is shaded. The sites that are in the prairie branch area are a little to close together for me. Also they have two great fishing piers for day or night fishing also some great trails.  Smiley

I am happy to hear you had a good trip.  I have AC on my popup, but I just have not been so brave as to try it this summer.  I made one trip out last summer.  Like Jessie, I start my camping season around the end of Sept and run through May.
